Burning CD's?
With the greatly reduced price of CD-RW units, or CD burners as they are commonly called, software and music piracy has come home.Basically, NO, you can't make a copy of Microsoft Office, Windows 98, your favorite "Ma Zit and the Grumbo's" music CD's and give/sell/etc. it to your best buddy.
I've heard of kids getting busted at school's for selling CD's they made at home with of a bunch of songs burned from recorded CD's.
If you have in your possession, CD's that look similar to THIS, I would be asking some questions of yourself. Like do I really want the embarrassment of getting nailed under Statute C-42?
However, if you have a CD burner, you MAY be allowed, under the terms of the software EULA, to make one (1) copy of the original disk strictly for backup or archival purposes. This means that the burned CD copy would ONLY be used if the original CD became un-useable.
As for music CD's, the Copyright Act C-42 still applies. There are a few gray areas. Consult your lawyer for advice (BEFORE you have to)
